RM Sotheby's Duemila Route auction held last November 25-27 in Milan, Italy led to a whopping €51,263,270 or $54.5 million in total sales from just a single collection of more than 800 auctioned items. It was one of the biggest automotive-themed sales ever held in Europe and the cars being offered were no less spectacular works of art.

For auto enthusiasts, it was a paradise of unimaginable visual pleasure and a dream come true for those who were able to afford the price. A 1996 Porsche 993 GT2 and a 1994 Bugatti EB110 GT both sold for €616,000 ($655,603). Another notable sale was the Lancia-built, Ferrari-engined 1991 Lancia-Ferrari LC2 Group C that sold for €851,200 ($905,924), as reported by TopGear.

One of the biggest sales was a 2004 Maserati MC12 with less than 6,000kms on the odometer, which sold for a tremendous €3,024,000 ($3,218,413), breaking the previous auction record by a considerable margin. The top honor of course, went to a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy, one of seven long-nosed, six-carburetor 275 GTB that sold for an extraordinary €3,416,000 ($3,635,615).

RM Sotheby's car specialist Augustin Sabatie-Garat has said the logistical challenges involved in putting on the sale were mind-boggling, but that they have risen to the challenge and achieved results nobody could have anticipated. The auction venue beside the Milano AutoClassica was reported to be busier than ever seen in previous auctions, according to Sports Car Digest.

The collection of more than 400 cars in the open market for the first time ever, presented an opportunity for buyers at every level. Rally cars of the 80's and 90's proved to be bestsellers, as reflected in quite a number of them being sold.

Besides cars, a number of motorcycles were also sold, like the 2008 Ducati Desmosedici that sold for €70,200 ($74,714) and one of 155 motorcycles available for auction. Two Lamborghini-powered boats and even a Jaguar D-type Child's car ignited a frenzy of bidding.
