Lucid Motors Going After Tesla To Build Arizona Sedan Plant

Tesla's advantage when it comes to producing electric vehicles may soon vanish as more and more car makers jump on the bandwagon. Another Tesla competitor, Lucid Motors, is looking to build a sedan plant in Arizona.

Lucid Motor is an electric car company that will definitely compete with Tesla. The company is eyeing to compete with Elon Musk's car company, specifically in producing electric vehicles. In order to compete with Tesla, Lucid Motors will be investing $700 million to build a plant in Arizona.

"Lucid Motors is building the luxury automobile of the future, and we have an opportunity to become the global leader in automotive technology," Peter Rawlinson, chief technology officer of Lucid Motors, said in a statement. "We are confident Arizona is the ideal location to advance our innovations and will continue to provide an excellent platform for our success," Rawlinson added.

The company announced the move last Tuesday, Nov. 29. The new innovative sedan plant will be built on a 500-acre property in Casa Grande, South Phoenix in Arizona. The plant is looking to employ about 2,000 workers and aims to be fully operational come 2022.

However, one of the most interesting missions of Lucid Motors is tapping veterans. The company will offer jobs to enable veterans to transition from war to the workplace. This is another one of the company's main goals aside from competing with Tesla.

Arizona is said to be a suitable place to build a plant due to more affordable taxes and regulations. This will also give the company a chance to profit more as compared to building a plant someplace else.

"When the government takes a backseat to innovation, big things can happen," Gov. Doug Ducey said in a press conference.

The Sonora government is open in saying that they worked hard to convince Lucid Motors in finalizing the decision to build a sedan plant for its electric vehicles within the area. Although the main plant will be located in Arizona, some materials will be supplied from other places.

Lucid Motors chose among 60 sites before finally coming up with the decision on where the plant is going to be built. The company is excited for this venture and aims to start production in the new plant as early as 2018.
