Chevrolet has set a high bar with their race car models, especially when it comes to speed and design. But now, it has set the bar even higher with their new 2018 sports car --- the Corvette ZR1.
It would be the new street-legal race car, replacing the Dodge Viper ACR. With its grand rear wing and great mechanics, indeed, it would be the most powerful model in Chevy's current lineup.
Spy shots taken during ZR1's prototype test drive have shown features like a camouflaged front, which covers a massive front splitter. It also hides what looks like to be a big lump on the hood, which may be a slot designed for its supercharger.
It has a little suprise as well --- a convertible body; although, it's known that convertibles add weight and lose fitness. The grand rear wing, the biggest wing on any Corvette automobiles yet, flies high at the back. It has more surface area and large endplates as well, which makes it even more track-ready, according to Autoblog.
Its wheels seem to be huge split five-spoke alloys. It also wears clear taillight lenses, just like the Z06 --- as well as that model's four bazooka-sized central exhaust tips. A more impressive version of the Z06's supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-6 sounds to be an excellent fit, but a twin-turbo LT5 V-8 has been categorized.
Its aluminum space frame, composite body, and two-seat architecture with various power and handling improvements will be the new ZR1's platform. Its powerful specs are expected to compete with other sport cars such as Acura NSX, Audi R8 V10, Jaguar F-type SVR, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Turbo.
The new ZR1 will be officially showcased this January at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The asking price for this low-volume Corvette will definitely hit to six figures, just like the previous ZR1, Car And Driver reported.
