Slower 2G network connections are getting more powerful or probably, it's the apps that are slowly transitioning to work with less competitive connection speeds; just like the recently launched MobiKwik Lite version, the lightest mobile wallet in India that is specifically designed to work with 2G networks.
The move is to make e-payment mobile wallet payment easier and more accessible to everyone, including those who do not have the fastest mobile network connectivity or those whose devices do not support 4G or LTE network. The MobiKwik Lite is as small as 1MB and can be downloaded as fast as 30 seconds, according to a report by Indian Express.
This new app can be installed even with older phone models limited to 2G networks. But the most interesting feature is that the new app is also designed to work with even slower networks like Edge.
India is apparently the fastest growing smartphone market in the world, according to Mashable. However, despite of this fact, "feature" phones with limited network connectivity are still being widely utilized in the country.
To deal with that, a lighter app had to be produced --- in order to cater to the market entirety in India. Today, all Android users under Gingerbread operating system can install the mobile wallet app.
The MobiKwik Lite also enables merchants to proceed with URL requests for customers, which can then be sent through text messaging. The link will allow customers to complete and fulfill their payments. Without the Lite version, only consumers with 3G and 4G networks are able to complete their payments. But with the most recent app, even those running on 2G or even Edge networks are able to enjoy the app's perks.
"By the end of this week, the app will be available in all major Indian languages. And soon, MobiKwik Lite will work without any net connectivity, too; therefore, addressing all the challenges being faced by masses in accessing wallet payments --- be it language, connectivity, or quality of smartphones," Bipin Preet Singh, CEO and co-founder of the company said in the same Mashable report.
The astonishing growth of mobile wallet in India has prompted the realignment of certain apps to adapt with the current market trend.
