Cyber Monday News & Update: 122 Million Americans Are Expected To Participate In The Online Shopping Spree

The internet has become the most reliable source of information for the past few years. However, the internet is also overtaking the shopping industry. Online shopping is one of the most convenient way of purchasing in as easy as one click. The biggest online sales' day will be happening on Monday. Cyber Monday is expected to rake in 122 million people to shop online. The statistics is provided by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analytics survey. The trajectory for this year's participants is up by one million from last year's online shoppers.

The increase is notable coming off the Thanksgiving-Black Friday weekend that saw 108.5 million people who shopped online. The numbers are well above the 99.1 million who hit the stores. Major retailers, like Walmart, started their Cyber Monday sales way earlier than the previous years. They did it to avoid sharing the market with major players like Amazon. Walmart now refers to the shopping occasion as Cyber Week.

Thanksgiving Day in the United States has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Most major retailers open very early while some stores have overnight shifts. The retailers offer promotional sales which is usually done on the fourth Thursday of November.

Adobe told Fortune that the evidence of the migration of field shopping to e-commerce is indisputable. Adobe added that the e-commerce trade between Thanksgiving and Saturday rose up to 17.3 percent which corresponds to $7.2 billion sales.

The e-commerce has revolutionize the shopping industry. On Cyber Monday, about 28 million shoppers plan to shop products from their phones, continuing a trend that explains why the likes of Walmart, J.C. Penney and Khol's have invested heavily on their mobile shopping apps. It seems like their efforts are not wasted as Forbes has listed Walmart as one of the leading retailers aside from Amazon, Best Buy and Target.

Walmart says 60 percent of the Black Friday orders on Walmart's website came from mobile devices. The company says that customers are getting more comfortable with pushing the "buy" button on smartphones. Walmart has been trying to hook people away from Amazon onto its shopping and mobile payment apps. Walmart has a lot of work to do on Cyber Monday. The company recently finished an overhaul of its marketplace business, something that allowed it to nearly triple its product assortment last year. The retailer is able to offer many items it would never offer in its stores, like the Michael Kors' handbags.

Retail stores are trying their best to promote their products by testing their websites before Cyber Monday. The final check ups on their websites are done to make sure that they can accommodate all the concerns on Monday.
