Assassin's Creed Unity unfortunately got a low rating and its followup, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, almost suffered the same fate - a fact which, sadly, didn't help Ubisoft to get right back up at all. Now, with their upcoming Assassin's Creed Empire, they are obviously not stopping with their attempts to claim the crown again.
But all things aside, for owners of Sony PlayStation 4 Pro, as well as the 4k television, there might be a welcoming gift from Ubisoft: They have snuck out a patch that adds 4K support to the game. Version 1.50 - which doesn't appear to be doing anything else as of this time, might be an indication that developers are quietly mulling updates to other extant titles, according to NeoGAF.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate is still getting updates from Ubisoft a year after its initial release; even though this latest update was one that many did not see coming, which is a move that Ubisoft had not previously announced.
The patch notes are feature-specific: "Added 4K support on PlayStation 4 Pro". That would imply something greater than the original 1080p support, in which one would need a 4K television to enjoy the extra pixel bounty. Note that the original PlayStation 4 game rendered at 900p. Does that mean PS4 Pro version render at greater than 1080p?
Moreover, a thread on NeoGAF has been updated several times by the original person who spotted the 4K update. There also has been a number of mixed reports, whether this will actually make the game look better or worse. Some at GAF seems to think that the patch is just a user interface upscale as well, and that the game itself is still rendering at the original 900p resolution.
Even if it's been bumped to 1080p, the patch note language is worrisome since it specifies 4K - an implication of pixel counts minimally greater than 1080p. No one's expecting native 4K support from the PS4 Pro, but 1080p support has nothing to do with 4K screens. In other words, one can just enjoy the salient benefits on a plain old 1080p screen.
And so, gamers are left guessing and facing-off reverse engineering to articulate what the game's developers are ought to be doing right now.
People just have to wait for more information from Ubisoft about the patch details, and if the initial problems reported are just widespread or not.
