Italian Auto maker Alfa Romeo has just entered the foray into the SUV category with the announcement of a new Sports Utility Vehicle, with an emphasis on the sports part. It comes in the heels of other luxury SUV brands and will be designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA250 and the Porsche Macan.

Officially unveiled during the Los Angeles Motor Show, the 2018 "Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (QV)" SUV is currently in display together with its sister, the Giulia QV sports sedan. Parent company Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) is hopeful its SUV will bring back the iconic Italian brand from the brink and catch the attention of car buyers with its sexy, unique styling. Compared to its upcoming competitors, such as the Porsche Macan or even the Jaguar F-Pace, the "Alfa Stelvio QV" has better presence and attitude, according to CarBuzz.

Under the hood, the "Alfa Stelvio QV" houses an all-aluminum, direct-injection 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that delivers 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The twin turbochargers that are integrated into the exhaust manifold mates with either a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic gearbox with the Q4 all-wheel-drive system. Standard on all Stelvio models, the Q4 is linked to a Chassis Domain Controller (CDC) that delivers all-season traction and performance capability that transfers up to 60 percent of the engine's torque to the front axle.

On the inside, the driver-adjustable Alfa DNA system helps to choose traction with an integrated actuator to adapt to changing ground conditions or driver need in milliseconds. It's also quite agile, hitting 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 177 mph. Its best feature overall is its Cylinder Efficient Management (CEM) deactivation system that enables the engine to run on three of its six cylinders for optimum fuel efficiency. Alfa Romeo still has to release consumption estimates at the time of the review, as stated by TopSpeed.

It's safe to say the "Alfa Stelvio" QV has no competitors performance-wise in its category. After all, Alfa Romeo has built quite a reputation as a legend among Italian automakers.
