The Volkswagen Golf has been given a fresher look and additional upgrades before it will be released to the market in the early part of 2017.
Called the Golf Mk 7.5, this latest Volkswagen model gets mild retouch, more efficient engines, fuel economy and an upgraded infotainment system. Designed to get back customer confidence after the Mk8 fiasco, this model will be sold at around £17,000, according to Auto Express.
Volkswagen has improved the engines in all aspects, according to the head of Technical Development of Volkswagen, Welsch.
He further explained that the scandal involving the Atlas TDI prompted the company to make revisions on the way fuel consumption was determined.
One of the most noticeable improvements will be the infotainment system, with an Active Info Day, a digital panel that is featured in VW Passat.
Golf Mk7.5 boasts of a wider display screen, which is far bigger than the usual 6.5 screen based system and 9.2 inches Pro Discover set up instead of the usual eight inches, according to magazine Wheels.
Featuring a wireless charging facility and an interface that allows for someone to control the infotainment system from the rear seat, passengers can remain entertained without having to reach the dashboard.
A great improvement was made on the engine, a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol that produces 148bhp. The Active Cylinder Management technology closes the cylinders when the car is cruising, resulting in reduced fuel consumption. Instead of the usual 6-speed dual clutch transmission, Mk7.5 gets a seven-speed unit.
Because the car can go semi-autonomous, new safety features were added. It has Traffic Jam Assist to make sure that the car keeps a reasonable distance from other vehicles, a City Emergency Breaking System that can detect pedestrians and other vehicles and a Trailer Assist that allows the car to go in the reverse just by setting up the door mirror joystick and a rearview camera.
LED headlights and taillights are now standard, with animated flowing indicators for higher-end editions.
