Volkswagen Passat, Tiguan Have Record Sales; Jetta Continues to Lead

Volkswagen of America sold 41,011 vehicles last month, a 62.5-percent increase over August of last year and the best August since 1973.  Year-to-date sales for the company are 286,750 vehicles, a 37.6-percent increase over the previous year.

"Delivering over 40,000 vehicles this month is another milestone for us as we continue to see customer demand grow for our products," Jonathan Browning, president and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, said in a statement. "With 24 consecutive months of year-on-year growth, we are demonstrating that we are making the right investments, creating a solid infrastructure and are delivering safe, high-quality and competitive products."

The Passat, which was distinguished by Motor Trend as its 2012 Car of the Year, sold 10,090 units sold, its best August ever for sales. The 74,162 units the model has sold also represent its best year-to-date sales.

Tiguan also had its best August ever, with 2,746 vehicles sold, a 36.9-percent increase. Another Volkswagen SUV, the Touareg, saw sales rise 77.3 percent over last August.

The Jetta, which continues as the company's volume sales leader, sold 13,377 units, a 6.1-percent increase over last August; while the Jetta SportWagen sold 2,069, a 9.1-percent increase.
