Lance Armstrong’s Girlfriend Anna Hansen: A Shadowy Support Amidst the Doping Scandal (Video)

Lance Armstrong was on a bike again today.

The seven-time Tour de France winner was banned from competitive cycling by the US Anti-Doping Agency, or USADA, this week (the International Cycling Union, which governs cycling throughout the world, has yet to weigh in), but today took part in the non-professional Power of Four Mountain Bike Race in Aspen, Colorado. Armstrong made a show of being in good spirits, Newser reported.

Before setting off on the hilly, 36-mile ride, he stopped to exchange a kiss with his girlfriend, Anna Hansen.

Hansen has been Armstrong's girlfriend since 2008, and is the mother of the two youngest of his five children. She gave birth to their son, Maxwell Edward Armstrong, in 2009 and their daughter, Olivia Marie Armstrong, in October 2010.

Armstrong's three older children - Luke, Isabelle, and Grace - are by his ex-wife Kristin Richard, whom he married in 1998 and from whom he was divorced in 2003. Those children were conceived using sperm that Armstrong banked before being treated for testicular cancer, as it was believed he would never be able to father children. However, his children by Hansen are claimed to have been conceived naturally.

Though frequently at his side, Hansen has maintained a relatively low profile since her relationship with the cyclist put her into the limelight. It was a mutual devotion to fighting cancer that brought them together. A native of Colorado and the holder of a degree in biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Hansen was a project manager and recruiter for First Descents, a Denver-based charity that organizes outdoor activities for young people with cancer. She served on the board of directors of another youth cancer charity, Camp Wapiyapi; and also volunteered at Denver's Children's Hospital.

She is frequently photographed, at events with Armstrong or on outings with her children, but the media has uncovered little about her beyond her professional bio. It can be assumed she no longer works full time, as the family divides its time between homes in Aspen and Austin, and a Texas ranch. They are also frequently on the road.

She has not evidently sought celebrity, but she has joined her boyfriend in sending messages such as this one to cancer patients.
