Apple's Oct. 27 event failed to impress some gadget freaks as the Cupertino based tech firm did not mention some of the most anticipated devices including the new iMac, despite speculations.
If rumors are anything to go by, Apple decided to give the iMac 2017 release date a rain check so that the device could include Intel's upcoming Kaby Lake CPU. Moreover, the new generation of iMacs are expected to boast an array of awe-inspiring features such as the Touch Bar, similar to the next-generation MacBook Pro.
If this comes to fruition, the multi-touch OLED strip could come in handy in various instances, and add to consumers' productivity thanks to its interactive commands that are capable of dynamically changing from app to app. However, there is a possibility that this change may not appeal to those who prefer pressing the function keys, according to Science Word Report.
The iMac 2017 with 32GB of RAM and a mammoth 2TB Fusion drive will be up for grabs for $3,199, PC Advisor reported. The slightly costlier listing was spotted on Best Buy. If Apple sticks to the aforesaid price, the upcoming iMac would be more expensive than the current-generation iMac that boast almost similar specs. However, Apple has kept some other key upgrades in the new iMac under wraps. Besides, the details in the Best Buy listing could merely be a placeholder.
Apple iMac 2017 is likely to come with AMD's Polaris 10 graphics architecture, coupled with Intel's Kaby Lake CPU. If recently surfaced reports are anything to go by, users will also be able to delve into the VR (virtual reality) capability to the Mac, as current-generation iMacs lack power to efficiently carry out VR functions.
Furthermore, the change in graphics processor could result in considerable performance gains, less waste heat and even power draw reduction. Other features worth noting include USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 ports that may require consumers to buy adapters for their gadgets with legacy ports, as many users have already criticized with the launch of the new MacBook Pro.
