2017 Renault Zoe vs 2016 Nissan Leaf, Which Electric Car Got Better New Gen Models?

Both the 2017 Renault Zoe and 2016 Nissan Leaf has been updated to keep up on the growing market of electric vehicles. Now the question is, which EV now offers a better new gen model? Will the Leaf continue to dominate or can the Zoe keep up? Check out our review here.

2017 Renault Zoe With Longer Range

The 2017 Renault Zoe is expected to hit it big thanks to additional 150 km of autonomy that it will get on its latest update. The model is also now available with two different electric motors and two batteries. The access model remains as already knew, with an electric motor of 77 hp and a battery of 22 kWh of capacity, an element that allows one to travel a distance of between 170 and 240 km. As a top model now there is an electric motor of 92 hp associated with a battery of 41 kWh of capacity that offers a range of up to 400 km, making it as the third electric model to have such great distance just behind Tesla Model X and Tesla Model S.

But electric range should not be the only criteria when deciding on one or the other.

The most obvious disadvantage of the Zoe to the Leaf is the size. With only 4,084 mm in length, the Renault vehicle is nearly 400 mm shorter than the Leaf. This difference in outer dimensions is extensible, to a lesser extent, to the wheelbase, which is 112 mm greater in the Leaf. Logically, this allows the Leaf to provide a roomier interior and a trunk slightly more capable (370 vs. 338 liters).

By size, the closest thing to Zoe are the BMW i3 and the Kia Soul EV and could not keep up with the Leaf in size, not to mention that the Zoe is also even more expensive than the Leaf as reported by MotoringCrunch.

2016 Nissan Leaf: Best Selling For A Reason

The Nissan Leaf is the world 's best - selling an electric car which only proves that Nissan did great works in this car. However, the Nissan Leaf has been revolutionized for quite a while. It was improved in late 2015 and received a new 30 kWh battery autonomy which increased by 26 percent to a maximum of 250 km as reported by NSEAVoice, but will this be enough to battle the newly upgraded Zoe?

Like Renault, the Leaf 2016 is offered with two different batteries, but with Leaf carrying a larger battery has not involved a loss of cabin space, because the brand has managed to increase the capacity of this element without altering its dimensions so that the interior remains unchanged.

Like the Zoe, the new Nissan Leaf can be recharged with a fast-charging system that can recover 80% of the battery power in just 30 minutes using a CHAdeMO connector type. Another common feature of Leaf and Zoe is that in both cases it is possible to buy vehicles with battery or of buying the car and rent the battery.

The Verdict

Since the cost and features are almost similar, the 2017 Renault Zoe wins by just a thread as it offers much more autonomy.
