Fans of "Mass Effect" were in for a treat today when a double whammy of good news hit the internet, announced in connection with a holiday celebrated by followers of the series every Nov. 7, "N7 Day." Both "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3" are now playable on the Xbox One via the backward compatibility feature, while the cinematic trailer for "Mass Effect: Andromeda" was also revealed.
The welcome news reported by Forbes means that the complete "Mass Effect" trilogy can now be enjoyed on Microsoft's console after the original Mass Effect had also been made available on the Xbox One. Larry Hryb, who has worked with Xbox since 2003, made the exciting announcement on Twitter.
Since then, downloadable content for the entire Mass Effect trilogy is now available on the Xbox One store as well.
Fans originally believed that Xbox's backward compatibility would never include "Mass Effect 2 and 3" due to its barring of multi-disc titles when it was first released. Hopes were raised however when the two-disc Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut was released on Microsoft's console, and the company followed this up with an announcement that it now knew how to ensure games with more than one disc could work on the Xbox, according to Polygon.
"Mass Effect 2" received glowing reviews across the board when it premiered on the Xbox 360 and other consoles, whereas reviews for the trilogy's third installment were mixed. But even those who were less enthused about "Mass Effect's" final act are rallying behind "Mass Effect: Andromeda" set to be released early spring next year.
Andromeda will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, Gamespot said in a report. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said, however, that its possible publishers will further delay the game's release after an initial delay already occurred this fall.
The treasure trove of Mass Effect news yesterday continued with the "Mass Effect: Andromeda" box art being revealed along with a remote-controlled replica of the Nomad, the trilogy's new car, worth $200.
