Chevrolet is putting its best foot forward at the Moscow International Auto Show, which begins August 29, in an effort that shows the growing importance it places on the Russian and global markets.
Chevy has been Russia's best-selling foreign car brand for five years, selling 173,484 vehicles in 2011 and 115,755 from January through July of 2012.
"As the fourth-largest market for Chevrolet, Russia has become a priority for General Motors," Jim Bovenzi, president and managing director of GM Russia & CIS, said in a statement. "We are responding with products that will satisfy the needs of our customers nationwide."
While several of the models featured at the show will be familiar to American buyers, several were designed for non-domestic markets and are unlikely to ever touch American soil.
Chevy will use the show to debut three cars to the European market - the Colorado midsize pickup, the Trailblazer seven-passenger midsize SUV, and the Cobalt compact - all three of which were designed with an eye toward foreign sales.
According to NetCarShow.com, the Colorado and Trailblazer were both designed by a team of Brazilian engineers in Thailand. The Colbalt too is Brazilian-designed, and will hit European markets later this year.
The Cruze station wagon, like the Cruze hatchback unavailable in the US, will make its Russian debut, alongside its sedan and hatchback counterparts. The Chevy Aveo sedan and hatchback - available in the US as the Sonic - will also be at the show.
Featured cars familiar to US buyers will be the Spark, the Volt, the Malibu, and the Tahoe.
Cars unknown to US buyers will be the Captiva crossover SUV; the Orlando compact MPV (which is available in Canada); and the Niva, a small SUV produced in conjunction with Russian automaker AvtoVAZ.
Finally, to add a bit of flash to the show, Chevy will display a Corvette Stingray concept, a Youth Concept, and new and classic Camaros.
Chevy will also debut its MyLink infotainment system to Russian buyers.
Using MyLink, customers can see information from their smartphones appear on their Chevy's seven-inch, color, high-resolution touchscreen. They can connect the car's system via USB or Bluetooth to devices such as MP3 players, iPods and iPads. There is also an outlet for some personal devices that do not use USB or Bluetooth connections.
