Tony Scott Commits Suicide; Director Had Long Career, Wife, and Twin Sons

Prolific film director and producer Tony Scott took his own life on Sunday, August 19 by jumping from a Los Angeles bridge.

According to a report by Reuters, the Top Gun director, 68, parked his car on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, from which he jumped at about 12:30 PST. His body was recovered from Los Angeles Harbor at about 3 PM. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told Reuters that an autopsy would be performed August 20.

According to ABC News, Scott was suffering from brain cancer, and his prognosis was not hopeful.

The AP reported that notes to loved ones were found in Scott's car.

Scott was married since 1994 to Donna Wilson Scott, a former Miss North Carolina who made her acting debut in his 1990 film, Days of Thunder. She frequently appeared in his films and shows, as well as in Get Shorty (1995), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997, as a fembot), and Water for Elephants (2011).

They are the parents of twin boys.  Scott had no children with his two previous wives.

The British-born Scott was the brother of film director Ridley Scott.

Among Scott's numerous credits as a TV producer were the shows "Numb3rs" and "The Good Wife".
