GM Foundation Gives $50,000 at National Kidney Foundation Cadillac Golf Classic

The GM Foundation announced today a $50,000 donation to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). The check was given to the charity at the Detroit leg of the NKF Cadillac Golf Classic.

In making the donation, GM cited the NKF's efforts to prevent kidney disease and spread information regarding risk factors and early detection. The donation will go toward the organization's Kidney Early Evaluation Program, which provides testing free of charge to evaluate kidney function among those deemed most at risk for the disease.  The program has screened over 175,000 people since it began.

"This grant from the GM Foundation will help provide vital services to the 26 million Americans affected by kidney disease," Ed Peper, the GM vice president who presented the check, said in a statement. "Cadillac is also proud to support NKF through this annual golf tournament."

The tournament takes place at 40 golf courses throughout the United States every year. It allows thousands of amateur golfers to compete for the opportunity to play at Pebble Beach Resorts. In its 25-year history, the tournament has raised more than $80 million for the NKF.

"One in three Americans is at risk for kidney disease because of high blood pressure or diabetes - the two leading causes," said Bruce Skyer, National Kidney Foundation CEO. "With the generous support of the GM Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation is working to spread awareness for those at risk so they understand the importance of screening and the role early detection plays in improving health and saving lives."
