A bunch of teenagers tried and failed to steal Dodge Challenger Hellcat models as the police caught up with them. In fact, they crashed the models in just minutes during the pursuit. The anti-theft measure of the vehicles was deemed to be effective as the car thieves weren't able to make it more than a mile.
Three teenagers were reported to have stolen Dodge Challenger Hellcat models in Saint Peters, Missouri around 1:30AM last Friday. The vehicles were taken from the Napleton Mid Rivers Dodge dealership. Two of the vehicles were reported to be the latest models of the franchise which was installed with a safety feature that made it difficult for the stealers to comprehend, reported Jalopnik.
When the deed was being done by the three teenagers, an employee of the dealership was able to contact authorities when he was able to drive past the venue and saw that the car lights were on in the lot. According to the general manager, it did not take long for the authorities to respond to the incident and that the teenagers scrambled when the cop lights were nearby.
The thieves were 16, 17, and 19-year old teenagers - the youngest of which would be tried in juvenile court. The other two would be facing jail time with a number of charges to be imposed such as receiving stolen property and burglary. Two other criminals were said to be involved and are currently at large. Other charges include resisting arrest and stealing a motor vehicle, among others, reported KMov.
The models stolen by the kids were: Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Dodge Charger Hellcat, and two were Dodge Charger Scat Pack models. Three of the four cars crashed during a hot pursuit. One Scat pack model was not found by the authorities.
