Ford Roximity App For iPhones and other Apple Devices Helps Find Local Deals

Ford has announced that Roximity, a personalized, location-aware app that tells the user where there are deals that might interest them, can be used with Ford's SYNC AppLink voice-controlled mobile connectivity system.

Roximity is compatible with iOS devices; an android-capable app is in development.

The app was developed by a team that won the Ford SYNC App Developer Challenge at the 2011 TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon.

"The launch of ROXIMITY is truly exciting for us, since it was the SYNC in-car experience that sparked the team to go from idea to reality," Doug VanDagens, global director of Ford Connected Services, said in a statement. "Finding and supporting startups like ROXIMITY is what will keep Ford at the forefront of in-car connectivity innovations. With ROXIMITY we become the first automaker to offer a personalized daily deal location service."

Roximity users can choose from a variety of categories to let the app know what sort of deals they would like to receive. When they are nearing a category they have selected, a notification of any deals will be sent to them by whatever method they have selected.

Categories are: Restaurants, Spa and Salon, Health and Fitness, Men's Clothing, Women's Clothing, Food and Grocery, Bars and Clubs, Auto Services, Entertainment, Sports Events, Treat, Home Services, Late Night, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Concerts.

"As users interact with the app over time, the ROXIMITY platform learns their interests and patterns and becomes more aware of the offers the user will find appealing," Ford says. "Users have the ability to limit the number of deals ROXIMITY reports per day or week."

Customer can command the App to list all deals in a prescribed area, regardless of category; and can have the app call the retailer or restaurant directly.

"While driving, users can simply say, 'lunch deals,' and their favorite lunch options will be read out loud," says Danny Newman, co-founder and CEO of ROXIMITY. "There's nothing like ROXIMITY. Other deal services offer coupons for the entire metropolitan area or for things that are not relevant to you. ROXIMITY is personalized and will provide you what you want, when you want it."
