Joan Rivers Storms Costco to Sell Book, Escorted Out by Police

Comedian Joan Rivers was threatened with arrest yesterday when she deliberately raised a ruckus in a Costco. Rivers, 79, was protesting the discount chain's refusal to carry her book, I Hate Everyone.....Starting With Me.

According to E! Online, the store avoided carrying Rivers's book because of its "racy content".

And so Rivers, with assistants in tow, showed up at a Costco in Burbank, California and began hawking the book to customers herself. She also autographed several copies. She held a megaphone, which she used to shout things like, "Costco should not be like Nazi Germany! Next thing they'll be burning the bible."

ABC News quotes Rivers as saying, "Costco, who sells condoms by the pallet, who sells Paula Deen books and - which is not good for their customers' health - they decided to ban my book. This is a First Amendment violation. You're banning a book because it says a funny quote by Marie Antoinette? Where is this going to lead us to?

"This is a store that sells 300 rolls of toilet paper at the same time, and I say any customer that buys 300 rolls of toilet paper deserves a funny book to sit on the toilet and read."

She then, E! Online says, walked over to a customer's cart and handcuffed herself to it.

When police arrived, Rivers agreed to leave.

I Hate Everyone.....Starting With Me is Rivers's latest nonfiction volume offering her take on Hollywood, politics, history, and a variety of other topics.
