Subaru Sales Up: Subaru Outback, Subaru Forester, and Subaru Impreza Top Sellers

Subaru of America experienced sales increases in July of 16 percent over July of last year, selling a total 25,183 vehicles. The company's year-to-date sales (189,487) are 23 percent higher than they were by this time last year.

The highest performer in terms of sales volume was the Outback, which sold 9,282 units, a 10.86-percent increase over July of last year. Year-to-date sales for the model rose 6.25 percent to 63,336.

The next highest was the Forester, which increased 3.78 percent to 6,453.  Year-to-date sales increased a modest 0.44 percent to 43,549 units.

The most dramatic increase in sales belongs to the Impreza, which shot up 110.59 percent to 4,553 units. Year-to-date sales for the compact are up 159.73 percent to 44,411 units. However, the Impreza WRX - the model's high-performance variant - saw sales decrease 15.76 percent to 925 units.

WRX's year-to-sales, on the other hand, are 6.85 percent higher this year than last, with 7,769 sold.

The Subaru Legacy also saw a monthly decrease but a year-to-date increase. July sales were down 8.86 percent (at 3,321 units) from July of last year, but so far this year, the model has sold 10.69 percent more units (27,593) than last year.

Sales of the Tribeca crossover SUV are down by both measures. July 2012 saw 35.74 percent fewer sales (151 units) than July of 2011, while year-to-date sales are 17.69 percent lower (at 1,242).

In spite of some decreases, company executives are focusing on the positive.

"Subaru products represent safety, value and reliability, which is exactly what customers are looking for in these turbulent economic times," Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and COO of Subaru of America, said in a statement. "We are pleased to continue our trend of double digit monthly sales increases, and July represents the eighth consecutive month Subaru has established monthly sales records. The arrival of the all-new XV Crosstrek is right around the corner so we expect to see continued momentum into the second half of the year."

"Subaru buyers continue to recognize the incredible value proposition of our vehicles," Bill Cyphers, senior vice president of sales, said in the same statement. "Our buyers are savvy shoppers with active lifestyles.  When shoppers seek safety, durability and a spirited drive, the Subaru line-up of vehicles offers a no-compromise solution."
