It has been a couple of years that production of the Tesla Roadster has come to an end. So it is the second-hand models that can suffice the needs of those who might be keen for the Tesla sports car. And a particular example is on eBay too, though the problem is that the seller is asking for no less than an eye-poping $1 million for the car, Motor1 reported.

While that makes the price almost ten times what Tesla ever sold the Roadsters for during it's hey days, the seller is justifying the seemingly exorbitant price tag citing its special one off status, that of being a prototype car.

The car listed on eBay happens to be one of the 33 Roadster prototypes, or rather the 32nd prototype that Tesla had built before the actual market versions were released. It was used for marketing purposes and has clicked a total of 18,000 miles as of now.

"A million dollar Tesla may be crazy today, but with vintage Ferraris going for $15M+, imagine what the first Ferrari prototype models would go for," the seller is quoted saying. "Take that 30 years into the future when most cars are electric and they'll be able to trace their history back to Tesla, the company that is changing the industry, and this being a prototype of its first model. Historic and super sporty."

Another unique aspect of the Roadster prototype on sale, if it can be so said in the first place, is the presence of a special gear shift knob.

The car though accompanies with it its entire service record that mentions a replacement of the power module at a Tesla service center a few years back. The original hard and soft tops are present too, as is the portable charger and the 240c wall charging unit.

Overall, the Roadster prototype on sale would have made for a great buy but for the almost insane price tag; more so when it clearly lacks the sort of timeless appeal that a several decades old Ferrari or a Porsche comes with. Or maybe the seller is asking for a price that is just too futuristic.
