Honda Sales: Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda Odyssey, Acura RDX Up; Others Down

American Honda reports that it sold 116,944 vehicles in July, representing an increase of 45.3 percent over July 2011.

Of the company's total sales, 104,119 represented Honda, an increase of 46.4 percent over July 2011. The brand has experienced its best year-to-date sales since 2008.

Acura sales represented 12,825 units, 36.4 percent above those of July 2011.

Honda Accord sold 28,639 units last month. This is an increase of more than 70 percent over last July. The Honda Civic sold 25,004 units in the US last month, an increase of 78 percent over July 2011.

The Honda CR-V set a monthly sales record for the seventh month in a row. Its 20,554 units were 47-percent higher than the number sold in July of last year.

The Honda Odyssey minivan sold 11,953 units last month, an increase of 88 percent over July 2011.

"As our sales momentum continues to build through the summer, Honda is experiencing its best year-to-date sales in four years," John Mendel, American Honda's executive vice president of sales, said in a statement. "With success growing along with inventory, it's wonderful to once again be able to meet the strong retail customer demand for our great Honda products."

Not all Honda models experience sales increases. The Honda Fit's 4,608 sales mean a 5.1-percent decrease in sales compared to July 2011. The Insight's 419 sales represent a 57.5-percent decrease; and the CRZ's 330 units are a 62.4-percent decrease. The Pilot's 9,757 sales are 2-percent lower than July of 2011's sales.

Acura too experienced some vigorous sales, and some decreases.

The RDX sold 2,664 units last month, a number that is 142-percent higher than July 2011's sales figures for the model.

The Acura MDX sold 4,288, an increase of 24 percent from July 2011.

The ILX, on sale for only its second month, sold 1,410 units.

"With the MDX continuing its reign as the top seven-passenger luxury SUV, and the new RDX leading the compact luxury segment, Acura light trucks lead the way for the Acura brand," Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, said in a press release announcing the sales figures. "With the ILX gaining its stride, Acura is sure to see robust sales increases for many months to come."

However, the TL's 2,358 units sold are a 7.7-percent decrease; the TSX's 1,980 are a 7.3-percent decrease; and the RL are a 42.9-percent decrease. The ZDX's 85 units sold are a 16.7-percent decrease from the corresponding month last year.
