Chrysler Sales: Chrysler 300, Chrysler 200, Fiat 500, Dodge Ram Sales Add Up to Best July in Years

Chrysler Group LLC saw sales increase 13 percent over July of last year, making last month the best July the company has had in five years and the 28th month in a row of year-over-year sales. A total of 126,089 vehicles were sold, as opposed to 112,026 last July.

Included in the company's figures are the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck, and Fiat brands, each of which saw sales increases over July 2011.

Reid Bigland, president and CEO of Dodge Brand and Chrysler's head of US Sales, said in a statement that Chrysler saw a second quarter modified operating profit of $755 million. This, he said, represents the company's highest quarterly profits in over a decade.

The Chrysler brand sold 35-percent more cars than it did in July 2011. Chrysler 200 sales were up 43 percent, and Chrysler 300 sales were up 41 percent. The Chrysler Town & Country minivan sold 25-percent more vehicles than in the same period last year, experiencing the best July since 2006.

Fiat sold 22 percent more cars than a year ago. The brand reports a triple-digit Fiat 500 Cabrio sales increase over a year ago, the model perhaps receiving a boost from the 500 having been named one of Consumer Guide Automotive's "10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000".

Jeep sales increased 7 percent over the same period last year, making last month its best July since 2005, and its 27th month in a row of year-over-year sales gains. The Jeep Grand Cherokee reported a 22-percent increase in sales, while the Jeep Liberty reported sales up 34 percent. Sales of the Jeep increased 28 percent; and it too made the "10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000". Jeep reported that its Compass saw the best sales so far this year in July, but did not say how it performed versus July of 2011.

Ram pickup continued its 27th consecutive month of year-over-year increases, and retains its place as Chrysler Group's volume leader. Sales were up 17 percent over the previous year's July.

Dodge sales went up 6 percent over July of last year, the brand's best July sales since 2005. The Dodge Journey experienced a record sales month, with a 69-percent increase over July of last year.  Dodge Dart sales, which began to go on sale in June, have been promising. They began to appear in dealers in frequent numbers in July, when sales increased 282 percent. The Dart also featured in Consumer Guide Automotive's "10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000" list.
