The 2020 concept car from Volkswagen breaks all electric car stereotypes. The exteriors reflect a truly compact car that is perfect for the city. However, this doesn't compromise its interiors at all.
It has an extremely spacious interior and boot space. There are also a few noticeable features that make the Volkswagen electric car truly stand out.
2018 Nissan Leaf vs Volkswagen ID 2020 price comparison
There is no confirmed 2018 Nissan Leaf yet. Nor has it been confirmed that the Nissan IDS concept car will be the 2018 Leaf Edition. However, for price reference purposes the price of Nissan's electric base model, the Leaf S came at around $29,860. Volkswagen has stated that they are targeting a price at around $30,000 for their similarly labeled ID concept car.
Range output and performance
The range of Nissan's concept EV should not be that far from its European cousin. The Renault Zoe has a range of around 210 kilometers or 130 miles when it was initially launched. However, NEDC has confirmed that it now has reached 400 kilometers or 250 miles, as of October 2016.
Volkswagen claimed that a one-time charge of their EV can reach from 400 to 600 kilometers or 248 to 372 miles. The range output from both cars obviously poses a challenge to Tesla's Model 3.
Charge duration period for both EVs
Volkswagen Canada's spoke person, Thomas Tetzlaff disclosed that the Volkswagen ID concept car, "...can reach 80% of energy capacity in just thirty minutes." As a reference, it can be estimated that a full-charge will only take less than sixty minutes.
On the other hand, existing Nissan Leaf owners on average shared that it would take them a full eight hours to charge their cars. This can be done using a 220 voltage power.
Like the Tesla Model 3, both cars are yet to touch the production floors. However, the wait should not be that long. It is just less than a decade until VWs 2020 ID concept car will be released.
For those who can't wait any longer. Hybrids abound in the market so far. Plus, we will never know who will be launching an electric car a month or two from now.
