New spy shots of the Corvette ZR1 present us with perhaps the clearest view of the upcoming speed monster. Sure, its sporting heavy claddings, though there are no way the most tell-tale signs of its fire spitting instincts can't be missed out on.
Those include the huge fenders, wheels and brakes, all of which point to it having far superior mile munching abilities than the Corvette Z06 that the new ZR1 seem to have been derived from. Use of carbon fiber body panels can't be ruled out either, claimed Auto Guide.
Sure the ZO6's body works are still evident though the extensive camouflage at the front end could be an effort to conceal something special, for instance massive air intake slots and vents. Further, as Left Lane News speculated, the holes punched in the front side fenders could be a sign of the ZO6 side ventilation slits being adopted in the ZR1 as well.
Thereafter, the ZO6's rear fascia could also make it to the new ZR1, albeit with some tweaks and modifications. At least, the camouflage there points to just such an eventuality. The rear lip spoiler is missing. However, the fact that the spoiler mounts continue to be there coupled with previous sightings of the Corvette prototypes featuring large prominent rear wings, there is every possibility of those making it to the final production versions as well.
There are also reports of the rear spoiler being electrically adjustable as well to allow for enough downforce and aerodynamics, mentioned Motor1.
As for its power equation, nothing is known for sure, though chances are that a forced-induction engine would be included in the scheme of things, together maybe the standard Corvette seven-speed manual gearbox or an auto box offering eight or even ten ratios.
A formal unveiling at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show seems most likely at the moment.
