The 2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP is here. The automobile company announced the 25th anniversary CBR1000. According to Honda, the 2017 CBR1000RR SP and SP2 weigh 33 pounds less and 10hp more than their predecessors. 

The earlier versions of the popular bike did not get any major update in years. As such, the 2017 iteration of the bike comes as a welcome change for customers. The 2017 CBR1000RR SP2 is more competitive, coming with lighter forged-aluminum Marchesini wheels and larger valves.

Here are 5 best features of the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP. The SP1 is going to be available in March 2017. The SP2 version will be available in May 2017.

Electronics

The CBR1000RR SP comes with better electronics than the earlier versions. It includes a semi-active Öhlins Electronic Control suspension. It also has several rider aids with a 5-axis Inertial Measurement Unit. The compression ratio is higher. It also has revised cam timing.

Fuel Tank

This is the first time titanium has been used for the fuel tank on a mass-production road bike. This makes the fuel tank much lighter in weight. It also improves mass centralization.

Engine

It has retained the same weight even though the compression ratio is 13.0:1 now. It was 12.3:1 in earlier models. The thickness is optimized in different areas, as well. The maximum engine speed has gone up from 12,250 to 13,000 rpm. Cycle News reports that Diamond Like Carbon on piston rings enhances the engine's sealing properties.

Suspension

It maintains appropriate flexibility even though it has thinned down some of the frame walls, reducing the weight by 300 grams. The die-cast aluminum subframe is now 600 grams lighter too. Overall, the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP has increased torsional rigidity after Swingarm thickness is adjusted.

ABS

It has an anti-lock braking system with rear-lift control. It helps smoother braking on corner entry. It allows hard trail braking and controls braking force.

Honda CBR900RR was originally released in 1992 and was 76 lbs lighter than the closest competitor, Ride Apart reports.
