Honda has just taken the wraps off the new Civic Type R prototype that is slated to reach Stateside in the not too distant future. No Civic Type R has ever made to it to the US of A and the new version makes for the perfect make to finally break that jinx.

Also, even though the Civic Type R it has revealed at the Paris Motor Show might still be called a prototype, many of its external design cues are expected to be carried over to the actual production version as well. As CarScoops speculated, maybe that applies to the cool new brushed titanium finish as well that the prototype vehicle is seen sporting.

Looks wise, the new Civic Type R continues with its smart yet aggressive looks. The new air intake scoop on the front hood adds character to the car, as does the vented front fenders and breathing ducts accommodated on the front bumper.

The rear too has been enhanced with a fixed wing and diffuser with the exhaust system featuring three pipes placed along the center.

Honda though is expected to continue with the same engine that powers the current version. That means it is going be the 2.0-liter turbo four VTEC engine which in its current state of tune develops 306 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. However, the engine might still be tweaked to liberate a few more horses, something that will put it in better stead compared to the Ford Focus RS, TopGear reported.

A six-speed manual gearbox would be channelling that much power to the front wheels. That would make it really interesting to see how the new Civic Type R manages to tame that many horses while still offering decent levels of driving dynamics.

For the sake of comparison, the Focus RS offers 345 bhp of peak power while the Golf GTI Clubsport S comes with a 306 bhp engine, with both being four wheel drive versions.

No probable launch schedule is known as of now though for pointers, the new Civic Type R will be making its European debut towards the second half of 2017.
