Fred Willard’s Wife a Playwright, Philanthropist

Fred Willard won't be prosecuted for his alleged lewd act in a Hollywood porn theater.

His career may or may not suffer beyond his firing from narrating the PBS show "Market Warriors".

The effect it will have on his personal life is anybody's guess.

Willard has been married for 40 years (one source indicates 44) to playwright Mary Willard. Thought not well-known to TV or movie audiences, Mrs Willard has made a name for herself in theater as an award-winning playwright.

Her play Deathtroupe, a murder mystery spoof, was staged at the Grove Theater in Upland, California last year and starred her husband. Another comedy, Elvis and Juliet, ran for a year in Los Angeles and had a two-month run in New York in 2006.

She has also written plays called Moon Shine!, At the Vanity Fair, and Murder, She Rewrote.

She managed the former Cast Theater in Los Angeles, and has worked on behalf of numerous groups to promote playwriting.

With her husband, she runs the well-known MoHo Group, a weekly comedy workshop.

She is also active on the Los Angeles benefit circuit.

She is President of the Guild of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, and serves on the Officers and Directors Committee of Actors and Others for Animals. She is also active on behalf of Farm Sanctuary, which promotes an end to factory farming, and the Alliance for Children's Rights.

Fred and Mary Willard have a daughter, Hope Willard Mulbarger, and a teenaged grandson.

Mary Willard was visible this week accompanying her husband into his lawyer's office when TMZ's cameras caught up with him.

She hurried ahead of her husband while he spoke to the cameras before going into the office; and afterwards waited behind the wheel of a red Lexus sedan while her husband again spoke, telling the cameras that his arrest was the result of a misunderstanding.
