GM has announced that the Trax, Chevrolet's new compact crossover SUV, will be manufactured in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

GM is investing $120 million in a plant in the Mexican state, Reuters reports.

The Trax is to be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September, and will arrive at dealerships in 2013 or late 2012.

A market not to receive the Trax is the United States. The SUV would be competition for Buick's Encore, which (like Europe's Opel Mokka) is built on the same platform, and for two other Chevrolet crossover SUVs: the compact Captiva Sport and the midsize Equinox. It will, however, be available in 140 other markets, though in some - such as Australia - it will be sold under GM's Holden badge.

Reuters also reports that Chevrolet will begin manufacturing pickups in Guanajuato, Mexico. Chevy's Mexican venture represents a $420 million investment and is expected to generate 1,000 jobs.
