Ford Recalls 2013 Escape SUV, Warning Owners to Stop Driving Until Repaired

Ford Motor Corp announced Thursday to recall one version of its newly redesigned Escape Sport Utility Vehicles for fuel lines problem that may cause engine fires. The automaker warned owners to stop driving the affected vehicles until dealers repaire them.

A total of 11,500 units of 2013 Escape equipped with 1.6-liter turbocharged engines are involved in this recall. The fuel lines may crack and leak out fuel, possibly causing engine fires. Two fires have happened at the factory while running a security test and one fire was reported from Canada. So far, no injuries or death have been reported due to this defect.

"Our intensive investigation and testing has identified the area of concern and we are moving as quickly as possible to repair vehicles for our customers," said Ray Nevi, the American carmaker’s assistant director for auto safety.

"In the meantime, it is extremely important that affected customers not ignore this recall and immediately contact their dealer,” Nevi added.

Ford dealers will pick up the affected vehicles and offer rental cars for the customers while they replace engine compartment fuel lines to repair the problem. The entire service will be free of charge.

This is the second recall on Ford 2013 Escape SUV recently. The U.S. carmaker has recalled over 10,000 Escapes Saturday for wrongly installed carpet padding, interfering drivers’ feet when transferring from gas to brake pedal.
