The new 2017 Honda Civic is here in all its glory which provides us with more than just a glimpse of what the new generation Civic is all about. Provided here is a lowdown of the new Civic which is slated to make its European debut by early 2017.
Starting with the powertrain, the new Civic will come with a choice of two new turbocharged petrol engines - 127 bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder and the bigger 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit capable of 180 bhp. Honda said it is anticipating bigger demand for the entry-level 127 bhp unit while a diesel option, likely to be a modified version of the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel will be made available at a later date.
No performance or fuel efficiency figures have been released just yet though some of the underlying questions about the vehicle might be answered during the upcoming Paris show. Meanwhile, a hybrid option will be introduced at a later date which will pitch the new Civic in direct competition with the Toyota Prius.
Honda also stated the new Civic weighs 16 kg less than its predecessor even though torsional rigidity has been enhanced by 52 percent. It also sits lower and wider which allows for superior ride and handling attributes.
Honda is also claiming the interior room is bigger than before though the Magic Seats along with the flat rear floor are no more to be seen on the new Civic. Boot capacity is a class-leading 478 litres, one liter more than the outgoing model.
The interior ergonomics too has taken a big leap forward, and so has the quality. A usual array of knob and buttons has been replaced by a TFT screen that provides the driver or passenger all the information they might need.
The new Civic also boasts a host of driver-assist systems to allow for safer driving. These include emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition with intelligent speed assist, Auto Evolution further reported.
That apart, Honda Connect has also been made compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the short drive that the Auto Express team had the chance to drive in the new 1-liter engine Civic, the car performed amazingly well with none of the harshness usually associated with a three-port engine to be seen on the new Civic.
