2017 North American Car Of The Year: GM vs Hyundai For The Esteemed Title?

General Motors and Hyundai are in close competition for the 2017 North American Car of the Year Award.

One of this year's most prestigious awards - the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Awards - will take place on Jan. 9 at a press conference at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The event aims to give titles for deserving automakers that have been producing top-of-the-line cars and the like.

As early as today, the semi-finalists for different categories has been announced. But it appears that General Motors and Hyundai are the top choices for the award for Car of the Year.

According to the Detroit News, GM is leading with seven nominations including the Chevrolet Bolt, which is the first electric vehicle under $40,000 to get over 200 miles. On the other hand, Hyundai is behind the automaker with four nominations, one of which is the Genesis G90.

Meanwhile, the juries that will decide which companies to hail are Car and Driver, MotorWeek, Kelley Blue Book, The Detroit News, and Roadshow by CNET. Aside from the Car of the Year title, there will be two additional categories: Truck Of The Year and Utility Of The Year.
