Prince Albert of Monaco is having a garage sale.

That is, he's selling off many of the contents of his garage.

When Prince Rainier III of Monaco died in 2005 he left behind the large and eclectic fleet of cars that he had spent a lifetime collecting.

His son, the current ruler of the tiny Mediterranean principality, is now auctioning off 39 of the more than 100 cars Rainier left behind.

Many of the cars on the block will surprise. There are a few expectedly flashy cars, such as a 1982 Porsche 928 S; but there are also four World War II United States Army vehicles; and a surprising number of cars best described as cute. These include a 1925 Citroën 5 HP runabout, a 1976 Volkswagen Beetle, a 1971 Fiat 500, and a 1939 Simca 5.

Detroit is well-represented among the items for sale. The collection includes a 1964 Dodge Dart and a 1973 Chevrolet Camaro (delivered new in Belgium and with the odometer in kilometers).

There are various 1920s and 30s roadsters from both sides of the Atlantic; as well as such surprisingly commonplace vehicles as two Citroen CX's, which must have been a dime a dozen in Monaco in the 1980s.

The sale will be held in Monte Carlo on July 26, with a public viewing beginning July 24.
