Galaxy Note 7 Recall Update: Florida Man Sues Samsung After Phone Explodes In His Pants

Samsung has been experiencing major backlash after recalling the Galaxy Note 7 due to its faulty batteries. But it appears that someone is actually pressing a lawsuit against the South Korean tech titan.

Jonathan Strobel, a 28-year old gentleman living in Boca Raton, Florida plans to sue Samsung after his phone exploded in his pants. He was at a Costco store in Palm Beach Gardens on Sept. 9 when his Note 7 went off. The incident caused him second-degree burns on his right leg and thumb.

"He has a deep second-degree burn, roughly the size of the phone, on his right thigh," Strobel's lawyer Keith Pierro said, according to Reuters. "Unfortunately for my client, the recall came too late."

Moreover, The Palm Beach Post reported that the Galaxy Note 7 melted in his pants, according to the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue.

The lawsuit was filed in a state court house at the Florida Circuit Court, 15th Judicial District, Palm Beach County. Furthermore, the Strobel vs Samsung Electronics America Inc. et al case seeks to "unspecified damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other alleged injuries."

While the latest report might be the worst, it is not the first that someone in Florida experienced the incident. Nathan Dornacher and his family went to a yard sale during Labor day.

According to his wife, Lydia, they were unloading the desk they bought for their daughter when Dornacher left his Galaxy Note 7 charging in the Jeep. The phone then exploded while connected to the car charger.

Samsung issued a statement regarding the incident in Fox News.

"We are aware of the incident and we are working with Mr. Dornacher to investigate his case and ensure we do everything we can for him. Consumer safety is Samsung's highest priority."

"With regard to the Galaxy Note7, we are asking owners to take advantage of the Product Exchange Program announced on Friday of last week. The program offers Note7 owners the opportunity to exchange the phone for a new one. More details on the program can be found at https://www.samsung.com/us/note7exchange/."
