Porsche Dealership Goes Solar-Powered

A Porsche dealership in Texas has followed the example of corporate and gone solar.

Porsche of San Antonio has installed a solar photovoltaic system that uses 87 Schuco 230-watt solar panels and 87 Enphase M-215 Microinverters. According to Solar Energy, the company contracted to install the system, the Schuco modules used begin running earlier in the morning and cease later at night than those of a standard solar panel; while the microinverter technology allows for the panels to be monitored as a whole or individually, from a variety of sources. The system is grid-tied into the CPS Energy utility company of San Antonio.

The system produces 20.01 kW for the dealership, Solar Energy says.

Work on the project began early in the spring.

"We are thrilled to have teamed up with Porsche of San Antonio to spread sustainability and clean energy," Shelby Ruff, Solar Energy's sales VP, said in a statement. "This project was particularly fun from the scope of the system, to the style of the very interesting building, upcoming LEED status of the building due to green building practices, and everything in between. We've come together to create something great and highly-advanced, and also continue pushing energy sustainability in San Antonio."

In 2010, Porsche installed a solar photovoltaic system in Stuttgart, Germany. Solar Energy lauds this project as generating nearly two million kilowatt hours per year, enough to power approximately 500 four-person households.
