Just East of LA towards Palm Springs, police were on the chase for a stolen truck which was suspected to be carrying hazardous waste. The California Highway Patrol officers continued the pursuit for hours until the driver of the truck was finally arrested. Everyone's eyes and cameras were focused on the Riverside County freeways yesterday.

Reports from 7 News told the tale of how the hot pursuit began. The truck driver, later identified as James Edgely, caught the attention of the cops at around 10:30 a.m. when the former refused to yield and stop. To everyone's dismay, the truck carried the Advanced Chemical Transport or ATC logo which meant that the transportation vehicle belonged to the waste management company and might be carrying harmful nuclear waste.

The truck passed through the southbound 15 Freeway, eastbound 60 Freeway, eastbound 10 Freeway, eastbound Highway 62 and right into the desert, not minding the cars around and behind. Due to the size of the massive truck, NBC shares CHP Officer Brian Alvarez said spike strips would not work to intervene in the situation.

Truck Yeah shared updates every two hours, and according to their report, by 3:52 p.m., the truck attempted to slow down in Yucca Valley wondering around for any possible threat. By 5:25 p.m., NBC Los Angeles reports said the truck driver allegedly surrendered, and was eventually taken into police custody. Further investigations revealed that the truck did not contain hazardous waste like what the public feared.

In the same report by NBC, ATC owner Walter Singer clarified that the truck was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Barstow before morning light. The company was relieved to have spotted the truck via secondary tracking device as the driver disabled the GPS inside the vehicle. Originally, the truck was supposed to make its way to Nevada.
