Rare Ferrari To Make An Appearance In The Upcoming Malta Classic

A rare Ferrari will be making an appearance in the upcoming 2016 Malta Classic to be held between October 6 to October 9. The car, a Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, is among the few 176 models in existence and is one of the most notable GT racers of its time.

The 250 GT SWB was placed seventh in the Sports Car International 2004 list of the Top Sports Cars of the 1960s, while Motor Trend Classic ranked it fifth on the "10 Greatest Ferraris of all time."

The Ferrari that's going to graze the four-day classic event is apparently a prototype T Ferrari manufactured in the 1960 and was lend to the Scuderia Serenissima race team for test use.

After being returned to the Italian company, it was later sold to a famous German racing driver, named Wolfgang Seidel, who drove it for hill climbs and circuit racing. It has since dominated several races and concourse including this year's Monte Pellegrino and the Vernasca Silver Flag.

The vintage car will be flown over from Switzerland to Malta by Egon Hofer, making this the second year that Mr. Hofer is participating in the Malta Classic. His first appearance in the event was in 2007 where he brought his Maserati Tipo 63 Birdcage to the Gran Prix even in Malta, which was also the first one held in the Southern European country.

This year, the Malta Classic will have more than 60 participants from England, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Malta itself. Here are a few other vintage cars that are expected to make an appearance:

  • A 1953 Alfa 1900c Sprint by Touring
  • a 1938 Alvis 12/70 Special
  • a 1934 Riley TT Sprite
  • a 1927 Chevrolet Special
  • a 1963 Porsche 356 Coupe
  • and a 1974 Mini Marcos.
