Michelle Wie was on spotlight at last weekend’s U.S. Women’s Open. But it wasn’t for her result, who finished in a tie for 35th, that made the headline; it was her tight purple dress.

The 22-year-old American golfer wore a purple dress at the Sunday’s game in Koler, Wis. The color, however, proved to be unlucky as Wie slid from 13th to 35th place by the end.

"It was one of the most frustrating rounds for me," said Wie, reported by Chicago Tribune.

"There are some things I need to work on, but at the same time this week was a definite confidence-booster for me… Being up there in contention kind of got my juices flowing and kind of made me want it more. I felt what it was like again."

Wie was considered a prodigy as a teenager, associated with nicknames such as female version of Tiger Woods. She qualified for a USGA Amateur Championship at the age of 10, becoming the youngest player ever to qualify, and turned pro in 2005 before she turned 16. Wie, who just finished her undergraduate studies at Stanford, is yet to win a major title.

“She’s a great player; Michelle is awfully talented and has a lot of game,” said Pettersen of Norway, reported by NY Times.

“I think you should give her a break. She just graduated from college in four years. That’s pretty impressive to do that on the sideline of trying to compete out here.”

Wie told NY Times that she did not give up yet.

“I don’t know if anyone gave up on me or not,” Wie said. “I’m sure some did and some didn’t. But I never gave up on myself, and today was a good reminder to myself what I can do and I still have it.”

But before Wie enjoys a trophy, she can settle for compliments for her fitting dress. Here are some of the remarks posted on Twitter.

"If Michelle Wie decides to give up golf, she can always become a runway model," twitted Stina. "She sure looks like one in that dress."

"Michelle Wie struggling today. She's over 5 on the day through 7 holes. On a happier note, her Nike dress is sweet. Have to be uber thin tho,” Beth twitted
