NASCAR News: Everything To Know About The Chase For Sprint Cup

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup officially begins at the Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, which sees 16 drivers compete and millions of people in the tracks and around the world watching them try in getting their shot at championship glory.

The competition will go through three rounds of elimination of three races each, and it will be closely followed by a winner-take-all grand finale. In such a high stakes battle like the NASCAR Sprint Cup, temperatures and fist fights are likely to flare up in the next 10 weeks.

This was evident on Saturday night at the Richmond International Raceway (RIR), where racers Ryan Newman and Tony Steward had harsh words for one another after the latter alleged that the former ran into him on the track three times, according to Fox Sports.

Other NASCAR drivers who are having a go at each other are Matt Kenseth and Brad Keselowski, who have a long history of hostility. That hostility was reignited at RIR, when Keselowski had missed a shift on the restart, which resulted in hitting Kenseth's car, sending it into a wall and its leftâfront tire cut off.

The 16 drivers will be narrowed down to 12, then eight drivers, before leaving the Championship 4 to battle it out for the title and bragging rights in Miami on Nov. 20. Some of the firm favorites to win this race are Kyle Busch, who is the reigning series champion; Kevin Harvick, who has reached the Championship 4 for the past two years; and Jimmie Johnson, who has already won the cup a total of six times in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013.

Other racers joining them on the battle are Keselowski, Kenseth, Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, Kurt Busch, Chris Buescher, Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon and Jamie McMurray, according to Alabama.com.
