How Many Miles Can You Still Drive Despite An Empty Tank Signal?

Have you ever experienced driving on a freeway and suddenly the empty tank signal started blinking? If not, would you panic? Worry not, because there is still a way to reach the nearest gasoline station despite the frightening situation.

In most cases, drivers always check their vehicles before traveling, especially if it is going to be a long drive. However, there are instances when drivers forget to refill the gas tank, expecting that they could reach their destination on time.

But then, always expect the unexpected. Aside from bringing in extra tires, batteries, and water in case of emergency, we must be aware of one of the most important thing - the fuel in our tanks.

Just in case you are about to get stuck in the middle of your journey with a flickering empty tank signal, do not panic. Life Hackers reveal that you can still drive despite an empty tank signal. But for how many miles?

The website provided a chart with the list of vehicles, the gas remaining when the signal turns on, and miles remaining when the signal light is illuminated.

For example, you can still drive as far as 35-80 in case your Ford F-150 starts giving you the signal. It means that there is still 1/16th of a tank remaining, and the list goes on. But there's an exception:

Note: For vehicles with "Not Available" listed for the point at which the warning light comes on, the light is triggered based on the distance to empty calculator having the listed number of miles remaining," as we quote. Your Mechanic website has the chart as well.

Taking note of this information is very important because it will give you an idea what to do just in case you are stuck in the situation. There is still time to look for the nearest gas station and it will decrease the danger of stopping in the middle of a highway, or worse, on a deserted road.
