Hyundai's upcoming car, the i30, is the first model to have an "N" version, the newest performance sub-brand of the company. It's expected to rival models like the Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Gold, and the Kia Ceed.
It seems that Hyundai hasn't changed a lot regarding the car's exterior design. You have the cascading grille on the front and its LED headlights are hugging the front bumper. It exceeds the previous model by a small margin regarding length and width; its overhangs have been cut, and the bonnet became longer.
The car will be available in 12 paint colors, and offers the option of a 15-inch steel and alloy wheels, or 16 and 17-inch alloys. Now, let's take a look at its interior where Hyundai heavily focused on.
Coming inside one of the most notable change is the increase in space and storage options. The boot can hold up to 395-liters, which Hyundai boasts to be more than what most of its competitors have. The inside further increased to 1,301 liters when the rear seats are down.
The entire dashboard had some major overhaul as well. A new instrument cluster was added, a new steering wheel, and a heater function. Standard to the company, the new i30 comes with a five-inch touchscreen infotainment feature, Bluetooth connectivity, a rear parking camera, and a system that allows you to load your own music.
Additionally, optional extras include an eight-inch "floating" touchscreen that's placed on the dash, a sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, as well as a wireless charging pad.
Buyers will also have the option of choosing black cloth, grey cloth, or leather seats. The last one has an additional option of two-tone blue and black or you can settle on a diamond pattern. A feature that comes with the driver seat is power-adjustable and can remember two seating positions.
As for the safety feature, the i30 will have an autonomous emergency braking, driver attention alert, active cruise, blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist, speed limit notification, and rear cross-traffic alert, letting you know if there is traffic approaching while you are reversing. The car will have seven airbags as standard.
There will be various petrol and diesel engines available under the i30 hatchback's hood. Buyers will have the option of choosing the 1.0 and new 1.4-liter petrol engine both of which are turbocharged or the non-turbocharged 1.4-liter.
The 1.0-liter turbo comes with a six-speed-manual gearbox, while the 1.4 can give you that or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic depending on your preference. As for the 1.6-liter diesel engine, buyers have three different power outputs to choose from.
The company has also said that the handling has been improved, with more direct steering and a faster response time than its predecessor. The new i30 will be 28kg lighter than the previous model.
Hyundai has yet to set a price on the i30 but it's expected to be in the ballpark figure on the current price which is $17,242. The unveiling of the i30 hatchback is set later in 2017.
