American car manufacturer, Dodge (Fiat Chrysler Automobile) announces that they will end the production of the Dodge Dart this September. This may not come as a big surprise, we have been hearing from FCA that they plan to "withdraw" the Dodge Dart as well as the Chrysler 200 from the market.

In an interview, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said the FCA will "Withdraw the current Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart from the marketplace over a prolonged period of time, during which we will be continuing discussions with potential partners that will be able to allow us to access that architecture and effectively provide us with the product from their facilities,"

Such decision was made after the Dart and its other half, the Chrysler 200 displays an apparent lack of appeal from the market. Reported sales were 34,500 units of Darts in the first eight months of 2016, and half of the number were the sales last 2015 for the same period of time.

With FCA letting go of the Dart and 200, they will focus their production on making more Jeep and Ram models in their Sterling Heights, MI, and Belvidere, IL plants, where the two models are produced. 

The Sterling Heights plant will now house the production of RAM 1500 and the Belvidere facilities in Illinois will now focus on building the Jeep Cherokee. Cherokee making a move from Toledo, Ohio. 

No surprise on FCA turning their focus on making crossovers and trucks looking at the sales of these units and also the undying attention that it gets from the market.

Though the Chrysler 200 and the Dodge Dart will cease to exist, for now, FCA is open and looking for partnerships with other companies for the production of the said cars. FCA has great partners that co-produces some of their units, like Mazda and ProMaster City.
