Katie Holmes Ditches Tom Cruise: Is Scientology To Be Blamed?

Katie Holmes filed to divorce Tom Cruise on June 28 just before husband’s 50th birtday, giving a big shock to media.

The reason for the divorce was cited as “irreconcilable differences” but various reports suggested Cruise’s religion factored into the decision. A source told US Weekly that the couple “fought viciously” about raising their daughter Suri, 6, in Scientology’s method or not. Cruise enlisted his children, including two older adopted children with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, to be homeschooled by Scientologists.

"She wants to be in charge of how Suri is being raised and didn't want her to have an exclusively Scientology education," the source told US Weekly.

Suri had been raised in Scientologist’s tradition since her birth, fed with recipe by the religion’s founder instead of being breast fed.

In the mean time, Scientology is making a defense strategy about the media stir about their religion.

“…when people start to bring our religion into the middle and a bunch of uninformed people start to spread false datum, rumors and defame our religion it became a matter that does affect my Dynamics and I believe that affects yours as well,” wrote Scientologist Daniele Lattanzi Thursday morning, posted on a blog by an ex-Scientologist Marty Rathbun.

“I am not somebody that I am going to simply stand and watch a bunch of uninformed people putting my religion under the carpet.”

Scientology, which Cruise is an active member, had been a controversial religion. Katie Holmes had been reported to have attended Scientology classes after the marriage, but stopped about a year and a half ago.

According to another source to PEOPLE, Holmes “has always been of a Catholic than a Scientologist”.
