James Cameron Hints Storyline on the Second Installment of ‘Avatar’

"Toruk," Cirque du Soleil's take on the sequel of the blockbuster hit "Avatar," will contain clues on the storyline of the next film. The play's name is derived from the huge aerial predator that Jake (Sam Worthington) rode in the story's third act.

James Cameron himself revealed that the next film's plot will revolve mainly around a family theme and the characters' conflict with the humans. This makes sense as the franchise is set to produce four more of these sequels, likely the protagonists - Jake and Neyteri (Zoe Saldana) - passing the burden of leadership to their children.

Cameron said that "Toruk's" plot doesn't directly follow what he has in mind with the film sequel but admitted that there are overlapping elements that are likely going to be seen in the movie. The filmmaker also said that he liked some of the costumes and hairstyles present in the play so audiences will likely see some of these in the sequel as well.

Currently, the second "Avatar" installment is scheduled to be released in Christmas 2018. However, Cameron told Variety that he would move it again should the situation requires it. It can be remembered that it was scheduled for release in 2014.

"The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern," the director told Variety. "I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it's an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we're able to fulfill on that promise."

For now, the schedule for the next four sequels will be so: "Avatar 2" will be released Christmas 2018. "Avatar 3" on Christmas 2020, "Avatar 4" on Christmas 2022 and the final installment, Avatar 5, is set for Christmas 2023.
