The auto world has been buzzing about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG R50, a Mercedes-Benz F1-inspired street-legal hypercar that could debut at the Paris Motor Show 2016. Sources say that this mind-blowing hypercar can even go to production if the response is positive enough for AMG boss Tobias Moers.
Last month, we've heard that Mercede-Benz is working on project R50, a supercar that would be a step above the McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the LaFerrari. It does not end there, too, since Mercedes would equip this supercar with a hybrid propulsion system consisting of two electric motors that drive the front wheels and deliver 150 hp each.
Surprisingly, these two engines would be accompanied by a single-combustion turbocharged four-cylinder and 2.0-liter engine that would provide 1,000 hp of power, with teh capability to reach 1,500 hp. Rumors about the vehicle also point to an evolution of the V6-turbo 1.6 Formula 1 liter taken from the W07 Hybrid F1 car. In terms of velocity, the Mercedes-AMG R50 is said to reach 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2 seconds.
Just like the Aston Martin AM-RB 001, the Mercedes-AMG R-50's weight ratio would have a 1:1 kg/hp ratio, which would restrict the total weight of the vehicle to about 1,300 kilograms, making it a beast in the road.
Among other highlights, the supercar would have a steering system on the rear wheels, an advanced adaptive suspension, a narrow cabin with two seats like an F1 car, carbon fiber everywhere and advanced aerodynamics that looks like the Mercedes' Vision Gran Turismo concept and the Silver Arrow concept combined. In addition to that, the seats are said to be lined with inflatable elements that adjust to accommodate drivers of different shapes and sizes.
Then again, all these are rumors until the prototype version makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show which is only a few weeks away.
Once launched, the Mercedes-AMG R50 would be priced between 3 to 4 million dollars and only 25 to 250 units will be produced.
