Chrysler Touts ‘Torrid’ June Sales

June was an excellent month for Chrysler Group LLC's US sales. The company said that 144,811 units were sold, a 20-percent increase over June 2011, and that several vehicles had their best months ever.

The Jeep Wrangler continued what the company called a "torrid" sales pace, beating an all-time record set earlier in the year and selling 14,461 units. This is a 28-percent increase over June 2011.

Other vehicles to have their best month ever were the Chrysler 200, with 10,871 sold (a 51-percent increase over last year's June); the Dodge Avenger, with 9,404 units sold (a 68-percent increase); the Dodge Challenger, with 4009 sold (18-percent increase); and the Dodge Journey, with 6,896 sold (49-percent increase).

These vehicles' European cousin, the Fiat 500, had its best month ever since its US debut in March 2011, with 4004 sold (a 122-percent increase over last June).

The Chrysler 300 had its best June in five years, with 6,971 sold, (a 179-percent increase over last June). The company reports that in the first six months of 2012, it has already topped its 300 sales for all of 2011 (40,801 sold so far, versus 36,285 last year).

The high sales numbers are in line with the ambitious projections of Chrysler/Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne. Reuters reported that Marchionne said at a press conference two days ago that the company has sold 1.23 million cars in the first half of the year. This is more than half of the company's target and places the company in a good position to meet - and perhaps "overshoot" - its intended $3 billion operating profit for 2012.
