Samsung Galaxy S3 Expects Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update in Q4

The new flagship smartphone of Samsung is expecting an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean later this year, according to the latest rumor.

Samsung had already announced the Jelly Bean update for its Galaxy Nexus and Google Nexus S, but YouMobile claims the Galaxy S3 won’t be too far behind according to their sources. The Galaxy S3 currently sports Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Techradar reported that the Korean electronics giant did not comment specifically on Galaxy S3 but simply said the company will review the “possibility of implementation to existing Samsung products” with Jelly Bean once it is announced and released.

Jelly Bean was announced at Google I/O Developer’s Conference last month, showing off new upgrades to its current Android operating system. Some of the sleek features include Google Now voice service, similar to Apple iOS’ Siri, and new user interface with the courtesy of Project Butter.

Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the hottest items in the smartphone market, to the point where wireless carriers had to delay their release dates. The phone comes with 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, equipping 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM. There are two cameras, 8-megapixel rear and 1.9-megapixel front, capable of capturing HD video. The product is available in Marvel White or Pebble Blue colors and 16GB and 32GB capacity. Five major U.S. wireless carriers will provide Galaxy S3, including Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular.

Apple had been rumored to rush its iPhone 5 launch to compete with Samsung’s emerging threat. In Europe, where Galaxy S3 was launched in May, Samsung is breaking sales records set by Apple. The new iPhone from Apple is rumored to increase its screen size to 4.0 inches from the current 3.5-inch screen and have better screen, battery, charging dock, and camera. The new mobile operating system, iOS 6, introduced at WWDC 2012 in June featured new in-house developed Maps application and upgraded Siri voice service among others.

If the rumor of Samsung Galaxy S3 getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is really true, then it will heat up the competition between the Android and iPhone again.

Apple announced the launch of iOS 6 to be this fall, and rumors suggest the iPhone 5 to be released around the same time.
