Mitsubishi Falsification Of Mileage Leads To More Sales Ban Of Popular Car Models

The Mitsubishi scandal about the falsification of mileage on Mitsubishi vehicles seem to continue even after the company was purchased by another Japanese car company Nissan. The Japanese Ministry of Transport now ordered the suspension of another four of their car models, totalling to eight car models now suspended because of the falsification.

Vehicles affected by this ban, in addition to the four affected at the time the falsification scandal started are the RVR, the ASX European, the Pajero or Montero and the Outlander. These models are should not be sold until the a new test is perform. After this step, Mitsubishi is required to submit the correct fuel-economy and mileage reading for their offending car models.

According to the same Japanese Ministry of Transport the difference between actual consumption and submitted consumption of Mitsubishi cars are mostly 4.2 percent. In some models, it is as high as 8.8 or 9 percent . We should note that this deviation could be higher, since the rules of Japanese approvals is somewhat unrealistic and therefore are carrying out these fraud cases when approving certain vehicles, such as the famous kei cars.

This situation will put Mitsubishi on the ropes as sales of its models in Japan will fall significantly  The reason is obvious, trying to solve the problem will take a few weeks. Therefore, the brand will initiate payment of compensation to owners of vehicles affected by this problem. This measure seeks to prevent more damaged to Mitsubishi image.

Mistubishi has stated that they respect the Ministry's decision and will withdraw the violating models from the Japanese car market as soon as possible. The question on all Mitsubishi owners is whether this only affects the Japanese market. We need to wait if this scandal will grow exponentially and if possible sanctions worldwide will be given.
