James Buescher Wins NASCAR Truck Series

James Buescher won the NASCAR Truck Series at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday.

It wasn't an easy feat. Track temperatures at the start of the race soared to 117 degrees with an air temperature of 98 degrees. The extreme heat led to seven caution periods totaling 31 laps. Despite the blazing heat, Buescher said he wasn't bothered.

"I'm from Texas," he told reporters after the race. "I mowed my grass yesterday and it was 103. I like to say I'm ready for the heat all summer long."

Buescher started the night fourth in the season standings and took the lead in his Turner Motorsports Chevrolet. He led 119 of 150 laps and beat Brad Keselowski by 3.8 seconds for his second career victory.

"For James to dominate like this, it's awesome," said said Steve Turner, team owner for Turner Motorsports. "We feel like we've become dominant on a mile-and-a-half track."

"This is the third time this year we've raced this particular truck and the second time we've won with it," Buescher said. "The truck was phenomenal. We made some changes in practice this morning and the truck came to life. I knew halfway through the first practice that we had a truck that was capable of running up front. Then we made some more changes and it got even better."

Ty Dillion finished third, Matt Crafton placed fourth and Timothy Peters rounded out the top five.
