Chevy Spark in Development for City Drivers

The Chevrolet Spark is undergoing a development process to fit the U.S. urban market, according to General Motor’s announcement Thursday.

According to the statement, the mini-car that is being sold in 100 markets worldwide is expected to arrive in Chevrolet showroom in the United States later this year. The Chevy website wrote that the Spark will come late summer 2012 with a 5-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty.

“We listened to what young people said they wanted in a car. Our engineers tuned and equipped the Chevrolet Spark specifically for first-time buyers and city dwellers in North America,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing, in a statement.

“Spark is the perfect urban car because we’ve made it easy to drive, easy to park and easy to own,” Perry added.

Spark will have a Hill Side Assist to help the vehicle to start while parked on an incline and the Panic Brake Assist to apply emergency brake for the “maximum braking force” when necessary. The car will be ideal in crowded city parking space with 144 inches length by 63 inches wide dimension. Compared to Chevy Cruz, Spark is 37 inches shorter and 8 inches narrower.

Technology and entertainment features are also beefed up to enhance fun city life, such as the seven-inch diagonal color touch screen with the equipment of the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, connected to smartphone or other USB devices. This will allow the riders to play movies, show pictures, download contacts for hands-free calling, and much more.

Chevrolet is now on the list of one the world's largest car brands sine its foundation in 1911 in the city of Detroit. The brand has sold in more than 140 countries with an annual sale of 4 million cars and trucks.
